Tom Vek (b.1981) signed to small London based independent record label tummy touch in 2001 having spent some 8 years writing and recording with a minimal analogue studio setup in his parents garage in suburban south west London. During which he gradually learnt all the instruments he wanted to use in his music himself. Whilst finishing a graphic design degree, Tom's recordings over the next 2 years and extra recording, mixing and production with producer Tom Rixton on stolen time in numerous Uk studios completed debut album "We Have Sound" mid-2004. Scheduled for a release later in the year the album caught the attention of legendary label Go!beat (Portishead, David Holmes), now part of the Island Records Group. The untouched album was licensed and released through Go!beat/Island in 2005, and subsequently licensed through Universal to startime international for North America.
"We Have Sound" buzzes with a garage rock and angular funk energy, punctured by electronic flourishes, incisive lyrics and a haunting fragility. Tom plays every instrument. The album and subsequent b-sides have shown a wildly varied selection of styles establishing an artist from whom you really won't know what will come next.
Tom is currently working on a new album.
